3 December 2025
Hey there –
November was a busy month at Bangor Youth for Christ, from strategic planning for 2026 and welcoming new volunteers to teaching in Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones. But my favourite moment didn’t come in budget spreadsheets or while writing a lesson plan…it came during a Thursday night Youth. gathering as a small reminder that God is always working in unexpected ways.
We were about to read a Bible passage as part of our QTNA (Questions That Need Answers), and I asked for volunteers, as usual. To my total surprise, a young person who usually comes mainly for the snacks, games, and to hang with their friends – and mostly just barely tolerates the Bible bit – lifted their hand to read. My eyebrows nearly hit the ceiling.
And, of course, the passage they read happened to be full of tongue-twisting words that could make anyone hesitate. I silently panicked, convinced I’d single-handedly ruined any chance of this young person ever engaging again. But five minutes later… they volunteered to read again. Their friend, apparently just as shocked as I, blurted out: “What is going on with you?”
It was one of those small sacred moments where you can just see God quietly at work beneath the surface. Please be praying for this young person and for more sacred surprises like this one.
Prayer Meeting – Tonight!
Tonight is our final prayer gathering of the year; please join us at 7:00 p.m. at Penrallt Baptist Church. We’d love to see you there as we pray to see young lives changed by Jesus in Bangor and beyond.
Volunteer With Us
As we prepare to expand our youth provision, we’re building two brand new volunteer teams, and we’d love for you to consider joining us! If you’d like to register your interest in serving, please click here, and we’ll be in touch to arrange a casual chat.
Events Team
The events team helps support monthly socials; fun and safe spaces designed to help young people develop meaningful friendships and experience belonging in a faith environment. These are intentionally easy to invite a friend along to; they’re hikes, beach trips, football meetups, craft nights, and movie outings. To pull this off, we’re recruiting an events team with two different roles:
- Administrative Support: Help with planning, organisation, communications, and logistics behind each event. Ideally, you’d also be able to jump in with the check-in team on the day of.
- This role is about a four-hour-a-month commitment spread throughout the month with minimal in-person requirements.
- Youth Facing Support: Help run the events and engage with young people directly, helping to develop a great culture of enthusiasm, connection, and safety.
- This role serves once a month on the third Friday of every month!
After-School Drop-In Team
Bangor Youth for Christ is preparing to launch an after-school drop-in space where young people can unwind, chat, play games, revise, and connect in a safe and friendly environment. We’re looking for folks who can dedicate two afternoons a month (3pm-5pm) during term-time. If you enjoy playing a good board game, practicing your crafting skills, playing footy, or just being a listening ear, this is a simple and meaningful way to invest in young people.
Give Financially
Just £10/month helps us reach more young people in Bangor with the love and hope of Jesus. If you’d like to become a regular financial supporter or give a one-time gift, click here to visit our Stewardship giving page.
